PV Continues Winning Tradition of Enabling High-Speed Media Services on Panasonic Devices
BARCELONA, SPAIN (February 16, 2009)—PacketVideo (PV) announced today at Mobile World Congress that its CORE™ multimedia client framework has been selected by SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp. to power advanced media services on the new Panasonic 930P handset. The Panasonic 930P is the fifth SoftBank Mobile Linux phone (930P, 921P, 920P, 824P, and 823P) to incorporate PV’s CORE media engine. CORE is the industry-leading multimedia application framework that powers more than 260 million devices worldwide for tier one mobile operators.
The 930P handset is a high-end phone that supports HSDPA to address the growing demand for high-speed Internet video and music streaming. PV’s CORE software enables an advanced quality 3GPP RTP/RTSP video and music streaming player, in addition to a music player for Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) side-loading of content. It also incorporates Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) 10 technology for an improved end-user experience. The handset has been available to consumers in Japan since February.
“PV and Panasonic are partnering to bring advanced multimedia functionality to the 930P that bolsters the user experience and sets the handset apart from other feature phones on the market,” said Kazunori Takagi, president, PV Japan. “We are working together to deliver an exciting new chapter in mobile multimedia entertainment.”
“Panasonic handsets provide features and functionality that meet the increasing demand for hassle-free enjoyment of media on mobile phones,” said Noritake Okada, director, Business Units, Panasonic Mobile Communications. “Through our partnership with PV, we are ensuring consumers the best and most trusted multimedia experience available.
